The High Calling for Fathers

Dr. Sutherland has written a very readable book that reminds us of the important role fathers have to play in raising children. In some regards he is stating the obvious, as we all know inherently that raising children is a person's most important legacy. On the other hand, American society makes it seem that fathers are an optional piece in the raising of the next generation. This book offers a healthy corrective to our society's error.
While young fathers may be most suited to read this book, the book holds value to the 90% of us that still deal with 'father issues' dating back to our childhood. I highly recommend the reading of this book!

You may love it or you may hate it – but you certainly will not be able to ignore it.

The story begins with the protagonist, Vikrant Vaidya, writing to the President of India from prison. Convicted of murdering his neighbor, Vikrant, instead of the usual mercy letter that prisoners write, writes a letter that intrigues the President. As a result, the President requests his friend and former CBI head, Vidyasagar to look into Vikrant’s case. When Vidyasagar picks up the case, he has little knowledge, but soon he is ensnared in a loop of conspiracies that are much larger than one expected.

"I was born in a mentally retarded nation."

The first line of the book had me hooked to the book. The author is speaking about my country and I cannot deny but I have often thought in the same lines. As a result I immediately warmed up to the character of Vikrant. He was a voice that I loved hearing throughout. The author has done an expert job of narrating his story just right – without going overboard in any aspect. It would have been so easy to have turned preachy and have the author rant about some issue or the other for pages. But instead, everything was kept straightforward and to the point. The book covers everything that our nation stands for - cricket, books, caste system, religion, politics and even corruption. The book gives us an unbiased (at least I felt so) view at our nation and at us. And while most of it is not pretty one cannot but appreciate the author’s viewpoint. The plot has enough to offer to something to everyone and some twists did take me by surprise too. However, I do have issues with the ending and I am not sure if I agree with the author on it.

This is one of those books that might elicit extreme reactions from people because of the sensitive topics included.

I will have to holeheartedly disagree with the other reviews which have given this book two or three stars : .... you can find everything online.
Well true enough, but you will probably have to hunt down all the information spread through 4 or 5 web sites.

So first. This is NOT a book intended for seasoned SAPUI5 developers, but rather a book intended for programmers who are complete newbies or intermediate programmers.
The book assumes nothing. It starts by explaining the basics : HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery. That takes bout 20% of the book.
Next it goes through the installation process and continues to explain VERY important concepts : MVC , the binding models, data typing and theming.
It then continues explaining the basic UI controls and explains how to build a UI5 application from scratch.

The code is in BASIC! Yuck, but it went right into detail straight out. I got my answers within thirty pages. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book. I also liked the example. Other texts are not so good about that, but this one seems to be written more for self-study.
