Disappointing for practicing engineers.

The book is a rigorous coverage of electromagnetic theory; it does not explain electromagnetic interference or how one can compute interfering levels with a minimum amount of theory. The back cover states: "Designed to entice the practical engineer to explore some worthwhile mathematical methods , and to reorient the theoretical scientist to industrial applications... The book is a mathematically rigorous exposition of electromagnetic theory with applications in electromagnetic compatibility and high speed digital design." I was hoping for a text that would explain the phenomena and provide modest and memorable mathematical approach to solving problems. Instead the book is another theoretical text with little practical advice.

Theoretical EMC

As the book's title indicates, this is a theoretical text for understanding the diverse fields from which EMC comes from and where the EMC rules of thumb originate from. Aside from collecting those diverse subjects in one book, it also does the reader the favor of providing a mathematically rigorous foundation for the equations that are used in the text. Having both the electromagnetic theory explained and proving that they are mathematically sound, now the reader can have faith in the arsenal of EMC tools he or she has in order to accurately root cause an issue. This is the book's intent and it does meet it. Too many times will an EMC rule of thumb sound like common sense which leads the engineer to believe that EMC is done by logical intuition or what I refer to as "physics by intuition", but this is not always the case. The book demonstrates that they do have a rigorous foundation. It is one thing to read an equation and pick up a calculator, but it is another for the reader to understand the meaning behind the equation conveyed in the language of mathematics. Having this knowledge, the reader can make the connection between real-world EMC problems and the theory to come up with sound design solutions rather than just rely on rules of thumb. Plenty of other excellent texts exist for the practicing EMC engineer but this is one of the few that deep dives into the theoretical side of things and hence where its value lies.

About the Author
ROBERT BURNETT is professor of Media and Communication Studies, Karlstad University. Burnett is the author of The Global Jukebox: The International Music Industry (Routledge, 1996), Concentration and Diversity in the International Phonogram Industry (Gothenburg, 1990) and the co-author of, Web Theory (Routledge 2002, with David Marshall).
His main research areas include the global media, the music industry, digital media, and the Internet.
Burnett has been a regular commentator on global media issues with appearances on radio and television programs and commentaries for newspaper and magazine articles. He is one of the founders of the Communication, Media and Information Technology (CMIT) Research Group as well as the HumanIT Research Group. Burnett has been a visiting scholar in Canada, the USA, Scotland, Norway and Zimbabwe.

ANNA BRUNSTROM received MSc and PhD degrees in computer science from College of William and Mary, Virginia, USA in 1993 and 1996, respectively. In 1996 she joined the Department of Computer Science at Karlstad University where she is now a professor. She is research manager for the distributed systems and communications research group and also served as research manager for the Department of Computer Science from July 1998 until June 2002. She leads several research projects on communication protocols and is active in national and international projects on wireless communications. She has authored and co-authored two book chapters and over 30 scientific papers. She is a member of IEEE and ACM.

ANDERS G. NILSSON is professor of information systems at Karlstad University, Sweden. He has a PhD in information management from Stockholm School of Economics, and is a research partner at the Institute for Business Process Development (Institute V) in Stockholm. Anders has been working as a researcher with the ISAC approach to information systems development, the SIV method for acquisition of standard application packages (enterprise systems, ERP systems) and a business modeling framework for creating method combinations. He has also been active as an adviser to many change projects in private industry and the public sector, and has been fro many years deputy chair for the special interest group for systems development (SIG-SYS) at the Swedish Information Processing Society. Anders is author/co-author of 14 books on business and systems development.

A very good read.

This book was sort of hard to get into for the first few chapters, but once I did it was so hard to put down. The writing was excellent and the story just seem to flow effortlessly.

After years and years working at about every kind of job you can think of....Lacy Owens has decided to try a career as a realtor, but things are moving way to slow and she's finding it very hard to keep her head above water. She decides to watch the obit pages in the newspaper with hopes to find potential clients in the future. She been to a few funerals already, but this time she runs into a brick wall aka; Lieutenant Commander Mick Riley, and as a result she ends up flat on her back.

Lieutenant Commander Mick Riley, a member of the fabled SEAL Team Six, can't pull his eyes from Lacey Owens at the funeral of his mentor. There is just something about her that he can't shake. She's not a raving beauty like most of the women he's dated in the past, but that doesn't really seem to matter in this case, because he still can't seem to get her out of his head for some reason.

After agreeing to dinner together, they decide to become friends. It all works fine for a little while anyway....They play scrabble or monopoly with a group of their friends, or they all just hang out and share dinner & drinks together. But the attraction towards one another becomes to strong for either one of them to ignore. Her friends tell her not to worry about the future, just live for today. The trouble is...she's not the just "love em' and leave em'" type of person and he's not the settling down type. He's married to his career and could be called back into action at any time. If she let's herself fall in love with someone like him, she could be in for a world of hurt when he picks up and leaves her behind.

There's a lot happening in this story. First you have Maeve who inherits the house they live in from her grandmother. She's divorced and has a few other deep dark secrets of her own to work out.

Then there's also Bess. She also rents a room from Maeve and unbeknownst to them at the time...she's pregnant with her abusive ex-boyfriends baby. She keeps that secret to herself until she's outted by Jack...A fellow Navy officer that works along side of Mick on the base.

Through out this whole story; all of these people interact closely with one another. In fact; they all become sort of one big happy family. Those bonds and close friendships they form together, make this a very warm- hearted read.

Would I recommend this book? Most definitely, yes!

This was a perfect romance and I will difinitely be looking for more from Kate Aster. I hope she continues this series. I want to know what happens with Bess and Maeve and Jack. I recommend this book, you will not be disappointed.

Great book by a new-to-me author

Ms Aster is a very pleasant surprise. Here's a woman who is a new author to me who writes well! That's almost unheard of with so many authors these days. In addition to an interesting plot and very likeable characters, she obviously edited and proofread her work. The plot flows beautifully and is realistic. I hope Ms Aster is working hard on her next novel. She'll be on my buy list. This is one that will be on my re-read at some time in the future list as well.

A "Band of Brothers" of the air war.

If you liked "Band of Brothers", you will enjoy this read. The Mighty 8th lost more men than any other combat unit during WWII and this is great history. It is a band of brothers in the air. Since my father was a B-17 pilot, this was of special interest to me.

I liked this story. However, the author did change Mr. Abella's name to Mr. Milled and changed him to her. That annoys me without question. But the remainder fo the story was hot. Although, Andrew doesn't strike me as straight to begin with, so I am somewhat curious about the title.

A complete waste of time and money

The governing thought of this book is that all people in power, be it politicians, businessmen or priests, use psychological skullduggery (a form of art, according to the author) to advance themselves and achieve their goals. A layman can also do so, but has to be ruthless, courageous, bold and has to avoid effeminacy by any means. He/she also has to (quoting the author) "walk lightly, be very insightful, listen attentively and deeply, remain silent unless you have to speak, be sure the words you speak be skills of an orator, and in all surety have the mind of psychological skullduggery." This sentence is the best take-away from this book. The rest is not worth even scanning through. For, if a reader is looking for specific features of character/ demeanor/ behavior that reveal a manipulator and specific skills/ tactics that will help to protect that reader from that manipulator, he/she will be disappointed. This book contains none, offers no insight and provides no valuable examples.

Secondly, the book is extremely poorly written and is full of primitive grammar mistakes (e.g. page 12, in the middle of the page "... and to get back thrice as much than was gave." No joke! That's a real quote. This book makes me believe that it was probably self-published and certainly not properly edited.

Overall, just stay away, don't waste your time and money.

I've had this book for about three months, and I have read this book about three times, and I'm reading it again this book is serious. I no longer look at the world and people the same whether business or socially. You must have this book. If you're serious about getting into people's minds and rising up the ladder here is the manual. Read it for yourself and you will not be disappointed.
