Very Useful Primer

I liked the examples and tips the authors shared about building a dashboard. Some of the more effective tips were around building a data model using a three-stage process: (1) raw data; (2) staging table (analysis); and (3) presentation. Step two was the most helpful since it shows you how to stage your data using formulas and functions. I highlighted and bookmarked several passages from the book. It's THAT good.

Stay in the relationship

I purchased this book for my grandkids because several were experiencing relationship troubles. I felt it was because, as girls, they believed they had to "love" the guy enough and part of that was excepting abuse to "show their love." Teaching my girls to learn to respect their own rights is so very important because I wasn't taught that when I grew up. This book gets the job done. They may not get all the Respect Me Rules down right away, but it will plant a seed and I pray that they learn it is not OK for their dates to mistreat them. I recommend it for anyone trying to help another learn respect and the best part is, they encourage couples to stay together--not get out, like other books do about this topic.

Finally a book on abusive relationships that can be used by everyone.

As a behavioral health clinician for the past 30 years, clients that were in abusive relationships seemed to never run out of reasons they stayed with the abuser. While I was able to provide emotional support and a few good ideas, I wish I had had a copy of "Respect me Rules" by Michael and Shelly Marshall to keep me on track.

This 160 page book is an excellent tool for the clinician or someone suffering the various forms of abuse that can be dished out by a partner. Too often I was caught up with trying to understand why a person stayed when I should have been more focused on ways to curtail the ongoing abuse. The "Respect me Rules" offer good practical advice a person can use to shape up a partner's behaviors. I will be using the book as a guide I can follow in therapy sessions and sharing it as a workbook with clients.

I would offer this word of caution for a person who wants to start using the book on their own. The relationship usually gets worse before it gets better, as the authors point out, when the partner escalates their abusive behaviors as a way to try and maintain control. If you are not working with a therapist, it would be best if you arranged a regular check in routine with a trusted friend, a member of the clergy or a member of your extended family to assure them you are ok.

It's all logical things, but unfortunately as a target of an abuser, you are not in a logical frame of mind. This book is full of affirmations and truths that are good to contemplate on. It has some good advice and lots of reminders even if you already know what the abuse cycle is about and you're on the road to healing. Many things are repetitious if you've read on the subject, but it is still worth the cost of the book.

Wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where respect was the norm. We don't. For many understanding, expecting, or demanding respect is a difficult concept -- that's where this book comes in. Knowledge is power -- your power -- your control of yourself!

Excellent Resource

This is an excellent resource for NPs. I purchased this edition to replace the previous one. It provides current, evidence based guidelines in an easy to read format; particularly the use of tables to identify very important diagnotic or treatment infomation. It is not as portable like some of the smaller guidelines used by some area students, however, this is a must have resource. I honestly do not think there is a better healthcare provider guideline on the market.

PLEASE UPDATE!!!!

This is one of the best books for FNP students and all PCPs. It covers every aspect of a condition from diagnosis through follow up. Very detailed and easy to read. Softcover makes it easy to handle on your lap or one handed. It is a shame that an updated edition has yet to be released. Having been printed in 2003, some of the information is outdated. PLEASE release an updated copy!!!

Teacher Use...It's pretty handy and fills out your test.

I use this product as an AP Human Teacher. My student's also buy a lot of review books on their own, so some of them have found this as well. There are enough questions that you can take some of them to supplement and not have to worry about some students having an advantage over others. I like this book because some of the terminology that it uses, like "fecund", is different than the Foulberg textbook, so it helps expose them to aspects of the AP. The difficultly level is actually higher than the 2006 released test and feedback has been that the multiple choice questions are changing their format a bit since the last released test, so this is VERY helpful.

I am an AP Human Geo teacher. I have gotten most of my students to buy this book. The Kindle version is so inexpensive. Since my students started using this book they are doing much better on their tests. I think it has really upped their game. I too, think the questions are more difficult than the past tests I have seen, but they really do help the kids apply what they know to challenging multiple choice questions.

A Classic !!

The book is the most compete NLP book on one single binding. It is very well organized and very structured - definitely the most definitive basic NLP book in the market.

Perhaps that's why this book is one of the recommended introductory text in many NLP Practitioner courses, and it is still in printing after so many years and so many printings.

The NLP ideas presented here starts from the basic and slowly progresses in-depth. It does not have too much NLP jargon, and yet not too simple. (where jargon is used, you can refer to the appendices where each NLP term is explained in clear day-to-day English)

Each chapter is packed with well connected series of NLP concepts and tools, seamlessly connected to the following chapters, and normally ends with some NLP exercises which you can immediately use to change your life.

Unlike other self-help books where the so-called guru pumps you up with their motivational ideas, normally without much substance, the NLP ideas presented here are without all the fluff and "how poor turned heroes" stories. In this book, O'Connor just give you pure power-packed NLP ideas that you can try on yourself and others for immediate results.

This is definitely the NLP book. If you're looking for only one good basic NLP book to change your life, look no further.

Outstanding

I very much wanted to get into this little known science of NLP, brainchild of Richard Bandler and John Grinder, for some time. After careful examination of similar books I chose this one after reading some of the page excerpts.

Boy am I glad I did!! This book lays a framework and gives the fundamentals to this awesome science, and does so with such grace and ease that it is mesmerising. It simply and eloquently explains how you can use your brain to it's fullest potential and how to use your senses to design ways to get what you've always wanted.

NLP - Neuro Linguistic Programming (don't be turned off by the fancy title) is simply a way of life to help you succeed. It is the language used by winners - the science and art of NLP was invented by studying what successful people do differently to everyone else; how their mindsets allowed them to succeed where others fail.

It's little wonder that this book has got 5 stars from practically everyone who has bought it. It changed my life, and if you are looking for ways to get where you want to be in life then go for it.

The best NLP Introduction

I consider myself a dabbler in NLP and have read several books on the topic. Perhaps, "attempted to read" might be a more accurate depiction. I found the works by Bandler and Grinder and the Andreas's very difficult to get through. At the other end of the spectrum, there are other works on NLP or NLP-related techniques that are quite readable but seem geared towards those lacking all self-esteem. This book by O'Connor and Seymour is an easy-to-read, logical, and objective overview of NLP without the claims of life-altering benefits.

For those interested in using NLP to improve communication skills and learn more about how our minds work, this book is the place to start.

The best resource for Medicine Clerkship.

This book is probably the best resource available for the medicine clerkship. It is concise and well written. It is divided up into three sections. The first is a discussion of 26 of the most common presentations that beautifully illustrates how to put together your differential diagnosis. This first section I found was extremely helpful when seeing patients on wards or in clinic for the first time. It helped me ask the right questions to patients in order to come of with the most likely diagnoses. It is also remarkably helpful for the shelf exam since maybe 40% of the vignettes deal with these presentations. The second section discusses specific diseases in more detail. Again, these are very well written, with many helpful tables. Nearly every chapter has flowcharts for the management of patients with that particular disease. Since there are many "best next step" questions on the shelf exam, this is very helpful. The last section discusses common topics in ambulatory medicine, such as low back pain, dyslipidemias, and screening and prevention topics. This is very helpful as well since there are always a handful of questions on screening and prevention. Online, there are 34 additional chapters, most of which are useful enough (i.e. likely to appear on the shelf exam) for you to read. There are also a few videos, EKGs and CXRs with explanations of significant findings.

As you can see, there is a ton of stuff this book offers, but really none of it is beyond the scope of what could appear on the shelf exam. Except for the few chapters on psychiatric issues, this book was clearly written to help students like myself not just pass, but ace, the shelf exam. And it excels.

I preferred this book to Step-Up to Medicine (Step-Up Series), the most popular choice for medicine clerkship. Obviously people love that book, but I found the outline format too bothersome and prefer prose when delving into a topic for the first time. Step Up's information on diagnosing and managing conditions could use some work as well. For example, under the "diagnosis" section of many diseases, it would give a laundry list of findings for every diagnostic method under the sun without stating the test of choice. Very annoying.

Another popular book is Internal Medicine Essentials for Clerkship Students 2. This is from the ACP and is definitely the most authoritative book written for clerkship students. The problem is that it only covers the bare essentials. I actually did read a few chapters and found them to be a quick recap after already learning of the topic in hand. If you wanted to use this, I would recommend reading the appropriate chapters after having read the material in another book like Kochar's.

I read most but not all of the material in this book (I didn't find out about this book until a few weeks into the clerkship). I also did MKSAP For Students 4 (MKSAP for Students,Alguire) and got through maybe half of the internal medicine questions on USMLEWORLD. I just took the shelf exam today and felt like I was well prepared for it and would recommend this book and the mentioned question banks to anyone who wanted to do well on this clerkship.

Kochar Clinical Medicine for Students

I only wish i knew about this book sooner. No mistake about it, this IS the bible for all medical students. This would have been perfect for preceptorial sessions and case discussions but i only just found out about it and bought it toward the end of my clinical rotations. Still this is what i will be using for my Step 2 CK. Its only a hundred pages (more or less) more than Step up to IM, but cases are presented in an organized and logical manner. In a way it reminds me of Harrison's, just not two volumes long. The first sections deals with symptomatology and how to approach patients dealing with common presenting symptoms. It also gives an excellent differential list WITH a rationale. This is something most books do not have. The second section is about specific diseases arranged according to organ systems. Although this book does not offer the intricate details for patient management that an internist might be more interesting it. This book provides all the necessary information about internal medicine catered to especially for students. However, personally i think this book isnt just useful for students, its can me used by residents and even attendings as a quick review. This is definitely one of the best books i've ever owned and one that i will be going back to again and again.

Nice book

I used this book for a class I took in differential diagnosis and found it to be quite useful. It had information that wasn't in the Lange Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment, which was the main text for the course.
The only problem with the Kindle edition is the lack of an index with page numbers with hyperlinks (there are no page numbers) so you're forced to resort to using the application search function, which can bring up a distracting number of hits if you choose the wrong search term.

Great except excessive packaging

This is a great product, but I'm dinging it one star because what they send you is a credit card-like piece of plastic, wrapped in a jewel case-type of plastic, when all you're actually purchasing is a pass code. They should make that available electronically immediately, and quit wasting resources by using ridiculous amounts of plastic and fuel to deliver a code. Fix it, and I'd give it a 5 star. Prep U has been very helpful for studying in my nursing program. It helps pinpoint exactly which areas need to be studied further.

Two Words Of Advice: Read It.

This was definitely not what I was expecting.

I thought that I was only going to get a treatise on how to discern false, carnal Christianity in others - errant churches and Christian ministries in particular - and I got that. However, what I also got was enlightenment on how to discern false, carnal Christianity in myself. I didn't know it before I started this book but I needed the latter just as much - perhaps more so - than that the former.

Like me, you may not think that you need this either, but chances are good that you do. As the book says so well, we are, after all, fallen sinners saved by grace in the process of sanctification daily. I have made some changes of thought and practice as a result of being challenged by this powerful and incisive book. I suspect that you will too.

And, yes, I now have even better tools in how to discern false, carnal Christianity in others, errant churches and Christian ministries before I read this surprising gem of a book.

Friend, two words of advice: Read it.

Much needed

Thanks for writing this book. It really helped to clear my head. The prayer at the end was great.. I only wish that I could have read/prayed it at the start. Some of us are in deeper need of healing and deliverance than others due to spiritual errors made in the past, even ones the we thought were Christian. I wonder how many people have sinned terribly and thought it was a new biblical insight.. Now that is more than pigeon religion.. That is the devil coming as an angel of light to steal, kill, and destroy. If one survives such an ordeal it is a miracle and glorifies the Lord Jesus in that even when sifted we cannot be lost. Yea we are found.

I only wish the book would have been longer. I would like to have seen some cautions on discerning between demonic impulses and the holy spirit. Also I would like to add that spiritual gifts are to be desired, but not pursued at the expense of righteousness. I give credit to John Bevere for that last insight which could possibly have saved me a great deal of pain and heartache had I learned it sooner.

Truth can be tested. And should be.

Couldn't put the book down. If you desire to discern amidst the mixed messages in American churches then this book is for you. It doesn't tell you what to think, but guides through scripture in a way that you feel enabled to think on your own. It's not only a necessary read, but will be a favorite re-read. Every Christian should read this book and Mr Kendall's other book, Holy Fire, in tandem.
