helpful and much-needed resource for those in health care

this book is an honest account of the journey into medicine and presents some of the more important things one should consider when applying to medical school or currently working in health care. it is a really quick read, you can easily finish it in a sitting or two. it's funny, straight forward, but challenging. i found myself really convicted several times as it caused me to reflect and evaluate my motives and my heart in health care and as a christian. although i'm not a doctor, it was very applicable to me as an RN working in the inpatient setting. the book provides helpful tips/strategies to avoid not getting burnt out in the often demanding and exhausting medical setting and i find these resources for christians few and far between.
if you are interested or are currently working in health care, i recommend it as a valuable read. if you're an asian american, then definitely read it! if you are all of those AND a christian, then you must read it. i promise you it will be worth it!

Not just for medical school students!

As a business major in my senior year of college, I was not sure what this book could offer me as I felt no particular calling to the medical field. But! This book proved to speak to a wide range of readers. At the core, it is written about how to live and walk with Christ, regardless of what school of study you might be in. Tsai does a great job of giving solid truths and reminders about how to be a disciple in such a way that is applicable and practical, as well as share his own struggles as a student and Christ-follower. There are even study tips! Great and simple read!

Gospel Centered Discipleship At It's Core

I deeply appreciate Dr. Tsai's heart in conveying his thoughts regarding medicine, faith, and application in light of biblical truth - it bleeds out in his humor, struggle, and love as he shares throughout the book. His primary question for the disciple of Jesus considering medicine (or any other intensive graduate program or career) is "who will you follow"?
Dr. Tsai threads the needle well in his first publication by getting to the core by first assessing our identity: whether we are in Christ or not. All else will not have eternal and substantive significance otherwise. That then sets up the application of discipleship in the context of medicine - giving you a glimpse into the practical realities of the mind of a practitioner that is ultimately a disciple. He shares his experiences in light of Jesus' call to discipleship - which can be radically different or opposing to the invisible scripts we easily accept and believe when we give ourselves to our "calling" rather than Jesus, the one who has called us to himself.
From start to finish, this book is about gospel fluency - living life with Jesus at the core and addressing one of its implications as you consider becoming a medical practitioner.
